P3 and P4

Currently, you're all working towards the following grading criteria:
  • P3 define and document a client and user need for three related graphic images

  • P4 create and review three original graphic images to meet a defined user need
Today's session (1/5/2008) involves creating 2 remaining graphics for P4 (explained on the SoW). Read carefully, its not just creating but also 'reviewing'.

Reviewing

You need to refer back to the original instructions (who the client is, what they need etc) and explain how your graphic meets the client's request.

Use your written work from last week.

Exhibit your Photoshop Skills!
Its not enough to simply upload your graphic and say how it meets the instructions. You also need to explain what Photoshop skills you've used.
  • Layers (explain the different layers you've used)
What's on each layer, perhaps where you got the source image from

  • Tools used (explain why you used them, perhaps why you didn't use other tools)
E.g. Polygonal Lasso Tool was used for the box shape, because of its straight edges, the Magnetic Lasso Tool was used around the puddle given its irregular shape and distinct colour/contrast to the surrounding objects. This was copied onto another layer, a further layer was created of the lower element of the puddle so the resized steamliner could be sandwiched between the two puddle layers creating the effect of a sinking ship!
(no comments, please this is 1 minute of work as a rough example)

Summary
Making pretty, fancy or expert pictures isn't enough. They must meet a client's needs, consider technical needs and be documented.
